Potential use of statins in reducing atrial fibrillation after off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting surgery.

چکیده
trial fibrillation (AF) is a common complication after cardiac surgery and has important implications.1 Postoperative AF leads to prolonged hospital stay and increases hospitalization costs.2 Although the pathophysiology is not fully understood, the causes are likely multifactorial, including atrial myocyte alterations or atrial myocarditis, operative trauma, enhanced sympathetic nervous system activity, ischemic injury to the atria, atrial distension from fluid overload, chemical stimulation, and pericarditis.3 Above all, several clinical studies suggest that inflammation might play a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of postoperative AF.4

The effects of Vitamin C on Inflammatory Markers and Atrial Fibrillation in Patients Undergoing Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery in Bushehr Heart Center: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial
Background: Coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG) with cardiopulmonary bypass pump may cause systemic inflammatory reactions by releasing cytokines which leads to multiple organ failure. Vitamin C has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. The study aimed to determine the effect of vitamin C on inflammatory markers and atrial fibrillation in patients undergoing CABG. Materials and ...
متن کاملOutcomes of On-pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting in Patients with Metabolic Syndrome in Mashhad, Iran
Introduction: Metabolic syndrome (MS) is considered as an important risk factor for advanced coronary artery disease. This condition can increase the mortality and morbidity in the patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. The aim of the study was compared mortality and morbidity after off Pump- CABG surgery between patients with and without the Metabolic syndrome. Materi...
متن کاملAvoidance of Dialysis in an End-Stage Renal Disease Patient Status-post Off-pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting
Certain benefits are clearly associated with the use of off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) as compared with the on-pump CABG. The superiority is more evident in patients with multiple co morbidities including renal failure. We reviewed the medical records of a 67-year-old male with a past medical history that was significant for multiple cardiovascular diseases and new-onset end-sta...
متن کاملPrediction of Changes in Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction after Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting Surgery by Myocardial Perfusion Single-Photon Emission Computed Tomography
Introduction: Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) is considered to be the single most important prognostic factor in patients with previous myocardial infarction. LVEF is not improved in all patients after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). This study aimed to assess the possibility of prediction of LVEF changes after CABG using myocardial perfusion gated signle photon emission compu...

OBJECTIVE To determine the incidence of postoperative atrial fibrillation in patients undergoing on-pump and off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting. METHODS A retrospective study with analysis of 230 medical records between January 2011 and October 2013 was conducted. RESULTS Fifty-six (24.3%) out of the 230 patients were female. The average age of patients undergoing on-pump coronary art...
